Announcing a grant from BP

BP Fueling Communities Program Provides iPad2 Grant to Homewood City Schools Foundation

BIRMINGHAM / CENTRAL ALABAMA:  Homewood City Schools Foundation is proud to announce its partnership with BP through the BP Fueling Communities Program.  Last year, BP provided a grant to Homewood City Schools Foundation that is being used to help purchase iPad2s for each of Homewood’s five schools.

The partnership with BP is through the local company, Vulcan Oil.  Vulcan Oil is a full-service Alabama gasoline distributor.  They put more than 40 years of petroleum distribution and marketing expertise to work for their customers providing superior gasoline and petroleum products and turnkey gasoline distribution and fuel marketing services.

Funding provided by the BP grant will be used to help purchase iPad2s and an iPad cart for Hall-Kent Elementary School, Edgewood Elementary School, Shades Cahaba Elementary School, Homewood Middle School, and Homewood High School.  The iPads will be used by teachers in the classroom to help students learn.  Possible applications for the iPads include use of the devices to read novels, shoot videos, conduct research, hone writing skills, and bring new enthusiasm to once-tedious drills on educational basics.

Ms. Ashley Condon, Vice President and Fundraising Committee Chairperson, is sincerely appreciative of the support of BP and Vulcan Oil.  When asked about the partnership with these companies, Condon responded, “BP and Vulcan Oil have stepped up and provided much needed funds to the Foundation’s current initiative that will result in iPad2s for each of our five schools.  We are confident that this technology will be a huge hit with both the students and teachers.”
