Kindergarten Decodable Readers

This grant will provide age-appropriate decodable texts, backed by research such as Sunshine Phonics and Rigby Star, to grow the kindergarten classroom library.
A Culturally Diverse Library with a Mini Makerspace
Michelle Graves
This grant will provide culturally diverse books on topics such as black history, women’s history, Hispanic heritage, and other societal topics for the second grade classroom library. It will also fund materials and tools for a classroom Makerspace.
OG in the 3rd Grade Classroom

This grant will provide multi-sensory materials for Orton-Gillingham instruction to enhance the learning experience and support higher level concepts.
Motion, Forces, & Design – WIND IT UP!
Carla Palmer
For all third grade classrooms, this grant will provide books and materials for a hands-on science cross curriculum project. Students will read the book CLINK about a toy robot and a non-fiction book Making Machines with Springs. They will then investigate springs and patterns of motion before building their own wind up toys.
The Cardinal’s Nest: Legacy Discovery Space
Ashley McCullars
In memory of Dave Garrison, a unique outdoor learning environment will be built with a short nature trail and an area for seating. Each Edgewood student will have the opportunity to create a part of this new space.

“Ordinary People Change the World: I Am” Biographies for Early Readers

To align with social studies units, seven sets of books from the “I Am” by Brad Meltzer series will be purchased, one for each of the first grade classrooms.
Lone Star Learning: Target the Question (Digital)
Katie Harrison
Target the Question is a ready to use program that dramatically boosts problem solving skills. This grant will provide each first grade teacher with a digital copy of Target the Question to incorporate in math lessons daily.
Sensory Equipment

This grant will provide materials and tactile equipment to create a sensory path for students with sensory needs as well as those who need a place to get up and move appropriately. The sensory path will allow students to move around, decompress, and self-regulate so that they are ready to be a part of the learning environment.
We’re Rolling, We’re Standing

This grant is for the purchase of five rolling Orff instrument stands for the music classroom.
Take Me Outside! – Discovering the Outdoor Classroom
Andrea Krueger
To enhance learning in the outdoor classroom, this grant is for materials and containers for portable STEM Discovery kits, for use by students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Fact and Fiction: Integrating Literature in Other Content Areas

This grant will provide literature sets of twenty-two different titles of both fiction and nonfiction math and social studies themed books to incorporate in kindergarten instruction.

VersaTiles for Versatile Learners

VersaTiles offer students an interactive, hands-on, and engaging alternative way to practice math concepts at many levels. This grant will provide a classroom set of these instructional tools.
Preschool Classroom Materials

The grant will provide MagneTalk Match-Up Materials to help promote participation and independent work stations for students in a preschool classroom with special needs.
Get Your Teach On Conference
Abigail Marchetti
The Get Your Teach On Conference provides teachers with research-based strategies that challenge students to high academic rigor and engagement, leading to a successful classroom focused on best practices. This grant will allow a kindergarten teacher to attend the national conference in Orlando, FL, in July 2021.

Differentiating through VersaTiles

Glow Show (Art Show)

This grant will provide resources for all art students to create art and an art show using a special medium, fluorescent glow paint.
Shades Cahaba Elementary
Diversity Between the Pages

This grant will add diverse books to the school library collection so that students can “see themselves” in a positive way.
Growing Little Readers

This grant will provide two copies of mentor texts to share among all first grade classrooms. These books include diverse characters and settings from all over the world and offer students a more inclusive selection.
4th Grade Writing Master Class

The 4th Grade Master Class Writing initiative will assist fourth grade students with writing by having a local author teach students on strengthening their writing skills in an interactive setting. This grant will cover instruction from a local author, along with materials and mentor texts.
Dyscalculia Math Workshop
CaMeshia Brown
The Dyscalculia Math Workshop will assist students with misconceptions of math fluency, automaticity, and subsizing. The grant will provide dyscalculia math manipulatives and other materials to be used by fourth grade students and teachers.
Homewood Middle School
ASCA U Specialist Trainings

This grant will cover five ASCA U Specialist Trainings and related training materials for the seventh grade counselor. These trainings are self-paced, online professional development opportunities that result in an ASCA U Specialist designation.
Homewood High School
Make it Work!
Shannon Dodd
With funds for items such as a cash register, shirt folding board, size labeling indicators, and shelving, this grant will allow special education students to gain important vocational skills. A mock store will also be established for students to practice these skills.
Art Room Mural
Carolyn Coker
This grant will enable art students to collaborate, create, and complete a mural with a local professional muralist. Funds will be used to compensate the muralist and to purchase supplies to create the mural on the art room wall.

AP English Literature – It’s Lit!

This grant will be used to purchase relevant contemporary fiction titles for the AP English Literature classroom library, with the goal of implementing student choice and voice in the curriculum.

English for Everyone: Online Interactive Activities & Microphone Headphones

This grant will provide English for Everyone Online Interactive Activities and a class set of microphone headsets for English Language Learners.
What’s in your Pocket?

This grant will provide individual pocket Constitutions for seniors to use in U.S. Government and Economics. These will be used as guides for topics such as the Bill of Rights and will help students become engaged, contributing, and responsible citizens.
